MAUD & OLIVE HANDMADE
After nearly twenty years of running her successful business as a fundraising and special events consultant for not-for-profit organizations, Margaret made the bold decision in 2019 to “seize the day” and focus on some of her hobbies that give her so much pleasure.
Sewing was a gift from the women in her family and creating stylish outfits for herself, and later, adorable outfits and costumes for her children, was always fun. The leap to quilting began several years ago with an evening course offered through the City of Ottawa. Margaret was quickly hooked, and now she’s always on the look-out for fun fabrics and patterns to create something that will eventually become an heirloom.
In the kitchen, baking has been part of Margaret’s DNA thanks to her mother and grandmothers. Being able to whip up a batch of deliciousness is one of the best stress-relievers around!
Wondering where the name comes from? Until recently, backyard beekeeping was a hobby and her two colonies (queened by none other than Maud and Olive) gave her hours of pleasure (and sweat and stings). Maud and Olive are named for Margaret’s grandmothers - we aren’t sure if they would be flattered or puzzled!
Margaret lives in rural Eastern Ontario with her husband, Jim, and their orange cat, Cleo. Son William and daughter Catherine have both flown the coop for gorgeous Halifax, Nova Scotia, but they still hold a strong appreciation for home-baked goodies.
